This is a book about Dinah, a character who briefly appears in the Book of Genesis. Of course as a biblical story, her plight is eclipsed by the tales of her brothers, but here in The Red Tent, Anita Diamant recreates a world of ancient womanhood, where women take to the red tent together and community, support and womanhood go hand in hand.
This book might make you nostalgic for the ancient power of woman. Whilst reading, I began to yearn for a strong and supportive sisterhood. Though fictitious, I began to believe that this book was showing me the origin of the unendingly strong female spirit.
This is a truly wonderful read.
