This playground is just off Cook Street by Wellburns supermarket. Some of you might remember it as a pretty rough area and yes, the needle deposit box is still on site but they have done a good job of cleaning it all up.
The equipment is all sparkling new and well kept, there’s a couple of toddler slides off an easy climbing frame, and one steeper slide for bigger kids, though if you little one can climb, it’s also pretty easy to get up.
The ground is the nice sports turf, so it’s bouncy and there’s no butt ends hiding in the sand etc as given the location, I think there would be otherwise.
There are two toddler swings and two big swings and, my favourite, the double swing made out of a park bench is still there. I love that swing, it’s so old school and awesome! Right next to the play area is a minature tennis court, small but perfectly formed! This is a good playground for all ages and perfect if you are downtown in that area and the kids need some energy shaking off!
I’ve been to this park a few times lately. During the day there’s always lots of kids and daycares and it’s a lot of fun but I will say, as the day closes, there are a few characters mosying about as this spot used to be a gathering ground for drug addicts and the like. But this is only really as the sun goes down.
The piece de resistance of this little park is that it is right opposite the fabulous coffee, tea and honey shop, Yoka. If you love coffee and want to marvel at huge vats of honey, then make sure you pop in and you have cash as it’s cash only.
Next door to Yoka is Easy Living, another little spot to catch some retail therapy once you have worn the kids out!
